Tool Reviews from Our Editors
With this little gadget in my pocket, I always have the right scrapbooking tool at home or at a crop. At first glance, it’s just a cute key chain, but when I open up the wings of this curious creature, I have 10 handy tools at my fingertips. Whether I need a ruler (yep, there’s a retractable measuring tape inside), a cutting blade, or a stylus, I have what I need. —Leah Fung, contributing editor |
If you want to stretch your scrapbooking budget, investing in versatile tools is the way to go. These four new templates from Hot Off the Press fill the bill, giving you trendy looks to use over and over. Pick a fine-tip pen to give your project faux-stitching patterns or feminine swirls, or a craft knife to trim custom folder tabs and punctuation. --—Melissa Inman, group editor |
The Freestyle Cutter is a great addition to any scrapper’s tool arsenal. It’s easy to use—just hold it like a computer mouse and move it across your paper or along a cutting guide. I love the versatility of the straight, wavy, and perforating blades, and the safety lock is an ingenious bit of engineering that makes me feel much better about using the tool around my children. (The blade descends only when you press down on the cutter.) The cutter comes with a self-healing foldable mat, circle and elliptical templates, and a straightedge guide. The learning curve is minimal. After a couple of trial cuts on some scrap cardstock, I was ready to give it a whirl on a layout. —Erica Hernandez, contributing editor |
This is just what I’ve been looking for! I always seem to have problems getting my sanding disc into tight corners on chipboard shapes, but the new Precision file set from BasicGrey solves this problem in a big way. Each piece easily reaches into the grooves of shaped chipboard, plastic, metal, and more—with sharp results. The set includes six files (round, half-round, square, knife, and two filing boards) that sport rubber-coated grips for comfort and ease of use. It’s about time! —Leah Fung, contributing editor |
