Tips for Organizing Supplies

After coveting one of the scrapping metal carts for $50.00, I stumbled upon one at Costco for under $40.00. It holds my current albums, my embellishments, die cut tools and dies and any kits I have. I scrap in a shared office/sewing room so when I have to clean or restructure to do another project, all I have to do it wheel it into the hall!

I purchased kitchen storage items from IKEA that hang right by my work table. I keep tools that I use often in them so they are easy to find when I need them.

I love to use jars to organize my smaller supplies. They are very economical and you are able to see your supplies very easily. Baby food jars are great alternatives to buying jars. Baby food jars are the perfect size for small supplies. A cute way to decorate them would be to paint the lids and stack them up. Add ribbons or labels to decorate them and identify the contents.

I find that if I open packages of embellishments and store them in containers from the hardware store like this one, I actually USE them because they are right at my finger tips. They also take a lot less room this way too!

This is such a crazy idea, but it has been a wonderful time-saving storage idea for me that I thought I'd share it. For any of you who use small mounted alphabet stamps, go to a sporting goods or gun store and buy ammo cartridge boxes. Very inexpensive and the perfect size for small rubber stamps. The one below holds 3 different sets. Happy scrapping!

My Organization Tips
When I start a new scrapbook album I use my trusty 3 ring binder album.....and I go through ALL my scrapbook papers and decide which one's I will use. (I pick papers that 3 ring binder albummatch the album colors, ribbons that I want to use etc...) Then I get all the stickers I may want to use.. and I put these in their own separate page protector. I do this because I don't want to go through my entire inventory everytime I create a new page for 1 album. That would take me forever to complete it.

I use clear round jars to store my strings & ribbons, another for my buttons, and lastly all my glue sticks & liquid glues. Those are in a shelf on my desk. Everything else is put in separate plastic bins. Everything is tucked away in my big desk. It's great because none of it shows.

Organizing quick tips:

I use all sorts of ways to organize. I love ideas that i can see the items, or i forget i have them!!

-Clear pocket shoe organizer- can be hung on a wall or on the back of a door. Stamps, embellishments, and all sorts of things can be stored in the clear pockets and you can easily find and locate what you're looking for.

-I use a small shelf above my work surface which i use glass mason jars and recycled jelly jars to store pens, scissors and various tools that i can see and grab easily.

-I also have a pegboard that i bought and screwed on to the wall above my desk. I can hang all sorts of tools and embellishments and they are in easy reach.

-I use a Pampered Chef tool turn about for other supplies. This is great! I think some scrapping companies make them now too.

I like finding inexpensive organizing items. Look in the kitchen sections, baskets, and hardware departments for items that will work for you.

My boyfriend is a hunter, and uses a .22 rifle to shoot targets at the gun range. When I saw the little plastic boxes that the ammo comes in, I asked him if I could use them when he was out of those shells. It is a strange but very neat way to store buttons, brads, eyelets, and other small embellishments in. The thing I like the most about them is they have a plastic cover that slides off, so you can dump a little or alot out of the box at once. To take the stickers off I soak it in water, then take off what I can. The rest can be removed with goo-gone. You can then decorate it with stickers, ribbon, or just use colored sharpies to label them like I do.

For those of you that are just getting into scrapbooking and wishing to save money and yet get organized, you can buy organic eggs that come in a clear plastic egg carton which is perfect for putting embellishments in and you can stack the egg cartons while being able to see into the carton. If your embellishments have gotten out of hand like mine, I went to the hardward store and bought a plastic container that has 60 drawers that are opaque so that you can see what is in them. They can be put on
a flat surface or you can nail them to a wall above a desk. I have three of them and I have labeled all the drawers.
