Try to think ahead before you go to a crop night. By doing this, you can try to only bring things you think you'll use. If you wait un til you get there, you'll have ALL your pictures and TONS of supplies. You will spend too much time finding what you need.

Take Notes!
I keep a small journal-like notebook always nearby. When i watch online videos, TV shows, or read something in a magazine, i make a quick note and sometimes draw a quick diagram so I'll remember to use the technique i learned. I try to divide the notebook a little to keep like-ideas together. I also tear out or use a sticky flag to mark the pages of books or magazines.

Torn Edges
To create the "torn" edges on a scrapbook paper just take a Q-tip, run it under water and rub it up and down on your paper. This way you can control the way it will look. Just plain tearing can mess up your design.
