Optical vs. Digital Zoom

When you switch from a wide-angle view to a telephoto view, you’re using a camera’s zoom. An optical zoom changes the focal length of the lens, while a digital zoom just pushes the image’s pixels apart, which can hurt the image quality. Don’t be impressed by a camera’s digital zoom capabilities; it’s the optical zoom that’s important.
