Katie Nugent's page

*Update: You'll find a new layout #15 in the attachments, below. Sorry for any confusion.

Hi everyone, I'm Katie Nugent, Senior Associate Editor at the magazine. You can always find out what I'm up to at my blog, but in the meantime I have a call for layouts that I want your help with. I'm working on a special issue all about interpreting other's work; basically finding inspiration from others. Our team picked 23 layouts (three appear, below) and I want to see what you come up with by using them as your jumpstart.

Simply download the three pieces at the very bottom of the page in the Attachments section. Two are PDFs with all the layouts. Another includes descriptions so you can hear more about what the designers did. Send in your interpretations by November 5 to submissions@meredith.com. Please include "Make It Yours" in the subject line, as well as the number of the layout you were inspired by. Limit 5 submissions per person, please.

Hope you enjoy the project! I can't wait to see what you come up with!

Katie

Kokoemo Using regular, and older, photographs 1 Oct 31 2007, 10:44 AM EDT by knugent

I LOVE THE IDEA of scrapbooking, and I have been collecting stuff for years. I've only recently created several pages, and they don't come easy. I surf the web, have books, get the Scrapbooks, Etc., magazine, weekly newsletter and videos, go to scrapbook stores, everything, but the one thing that seems to hold me back are the photos! I have tried playing somewhat with computers to enlarge photographs, use effects, and print them, etc., but really, I mostly want to work with my existing photographs. Most of the layouts I see seem to have special photography zoomed into people, or just their faces, and the photos appear large enough to create a nice element to a page. Since I am trying to work with existing photos of times and events throughout our lives, I really don't want to take the extra time to crop photos, enlarge, etc., which really doesn't work very well with older photographs. Is there a chance Scrapbooks, Etc., can feature, in various ways, everyday photographs of various events and holidays which are on 3.2 x 5 or 4 x 6 for layouts? I realize I can crop here and there, but often there is a group of people, or I kind of want somewhat of the background which shows the evolution of our life by the little things in the background, etc. , which still leaves me with a relatively small-scale picture. Any suggestions would be helpful, too. But I do love this site, and the mag. Thanks! Lisa
