How to Design a LayoutThis is a featured page

Designing a scrapbook layout is among the first tasks facing a newcomer to scrapbooking -- and a task that continues to intrigue and challenge scrapbookers of all skill levels.

A basic layout, covering one page, is called a single page spread. A layout that covers two pages when the book is opened up is called a double page spread.

Essential scrapbooking supplies to design a single page spread might include photographs or other memorabilia, two colors of card stock, one sheet of scrapbook paper, a journaling pen or other tool for journaling, alphabets to make a title and miscellaneous embellishments for decoration.

There are basic elements of good design that apply to scrapbook layouts, card making or any other visual project. These include the rule of thirds, achieving balance, visual "flow", and the use of complementary colors. This page contains a scrapbook video tutorial showing a simple layout design

How to Design a Holiday Card
Easy Christmas Card
This easy to make Christmas card or Holiday card has a very simple design. It's fast and economical to make because it uses a recycled card as its base. The ribbon and embellishments can be recycled as well. In this example, the trees at the top are stamped and heat embossed images that are attached with 3-D glue dots.

The poinsettia is made with a craft punch using scraps of paper and centered with a small button. A Merry Christmas stamp completes the look.
