Eyelet

Definition:

Circular or shaped metal fastener that must be flattened with an eyelet setter. Can hold several sheets of paper together or be used to anchor fibers, floss, or wire. Also called a grommet, although grommets require a second piece to attach.

Technique using hole punch and hammer eyelet setter:

Use a self-healing mat as your base to protect your work surface. Use a hole punch to punch a hole in the location of where you want to attach your eyelet. Push your eyelet through the paper on the front side. Turn your paper over to the back and use an eyelet setter to flatten the back of the eyelet. Press the eyelet tool in the center of the eyelet and use the hammer to flatten.

There are several tools on the market that make this process easier and quieter!! The Crop-a-dile is one as well as some silent setters. Another good one is Fiskars Spring-loaded eyelet setter. These take the hammer out of the process.

Good Luck!

This is my first time at this site. How do you set an eyelet? Do you need a special surface to work on?
Do you find this valuable?
