Burnished Velvet and Other Glitter TechniquesThis is a featured page

Glitter is a wonderful enhancement to any scrapbook layout, greeting card of other paper craft project. Glitter can be applied in various ways and with various effects.

The Burnished Velvet Technique was developed by two women in Vancouver, Canada, Deanna Pannell and Haroldine Wingfield. Haroldine is the owner of Be Creative, a craft store in Pitt Meadows, BC.

The Burnished Velvet technique involves applying ultrafine glitter to one side of double sided sticky tape, then burnishing the glitter with the fingers. The burnishing brings out the glitter's natural sheen plus prevents colors from running together if two or more colors are used in a masking technique.

Vintage Easter Card with Burnished Velvet GlitterThis picture to the left is an Easter card in which one variation of the Burnished Velvet glitter technique is used. The image is completely covered with double sided tape, then ultrafine glitter is sprinkled over the top and burnished. In real life, the picture resembles soft, brushed velvet.

A row of embossing made with a Cuttlebug embossing folder and a ribbon complete the look.

Burnished Velvet Glitter Project This picture represents a more complex use of the burnished velvet glitter technique. In this method, you use two or more contrasting colors of opaque, ultrafine glitter and double sided sticky tape to create original and colorful designs that work well for scrapbook embellishments, card making or other paper craft projects.

The use of negative and positive masks allows you to add colored shapes cut with craft punches or die cuts.
